The world of big and large cities seems glamorous from outside but however the sight you have within might be so hazy and obscure that you can’t even see the horizon. This might be because of the smoke or the fog which is nonetheless called as SMOG.
Smog is a type of air pollution which is caused by the tiny particles present in the air. The word smog derives from the mixture of smoke and fog. Smog is formed by the particulate matter present in the atmosphere mainly ground level ozone and fine particles emitted through the fossil fuels from automobiles, factories and power plants. This yellowish or blackish fog can also be described as the mixture of various gases, dust and vapours available in the atmosphere. It not only creates the haze or reduces the visibility but also becomes the root cause for many of the bronchial and heart problems as it makes breathing difficult. When the atmospheric PM2.5 and PM10 standards of 35 micrograms per cubic metre and 150 micrograms per cubic metre respectively is raised to the increasing levels, it hampers in pollution increment.
Smog is formed when sunlight and its heat react with the gases and fine particles released into the atmosphere through burnt fuels. The complex photochemical reactions between the precursors like volatile organic compounds, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides release the ground level ozone and fine particles in the air.
Smog is often dependent upon the temperature. When it is the time for the temperature inversion, wind gets calm and creates the situation for the smog to get trapped over the area for few days. It becomes more severe in the areas which are farther away from the source of pollutant release.
Smog is harmful as its effects are really severe. The effects can be observed upon Humans, animals, plants and nature as a whole. This smog can be responsible for the ailments from minor pains to the diseases like lung cancer.
The ground level ozone present in the smog inhibits the plant growth and causes immense damage to the crops and forests. It also affects the death of innumerable animals who adapt to survive in the toxic environments.
Smog is the devastating problem arising especially due to the industrialisation and modernisation and thus the new invention and technology such as ANTI-SMOG GUN has came up as a solution to overcome this problem of air pollution.Anti-smog gun is a device designed to reduce air pollution by spraying water into the atmosphere so that all the dust and polluted particles gets clear from the environment.
Anti-smog gun is used to spray water after connecting it with water tank mounted on a vehicle. It converts the water into a fine spray with droplets size of 50-100 microns by passing it at high pressure through propellers. The idea behind this invention is to reduce air pollution by binding dust and other particulate matter and carrying them down to the ground level along with water. This is been designed for the arid places and the metropolitan areas. It basically works as rain to bring down the suspended particles present in the air. This device could be taken across the city to spray water to settle all suspended particles. Anti smog gun can spray water upto the height of 150 feet with the capacity of 30-100 litres per minute to bring down the polluted particles from the atmosphere.
